The Children Will Eat was started as a fundraiser by me (Alexandra)in 2019 to help my mentor Yvette to support children in West Africa.  Yvette and her sister were struggling to support about 30 orphaned or deserted children in Benin by paying for resources from their own paychecks. This was not sustainable. In 2019 Yvette and I were preparing for a trip to West Africa and we were going to be spending time with the children. I was inspired to ask my community for help. My goal was to ensure that these children would eat at least once a day per day for a whole year. With love and blessings, we well surpassed this goal.

Last year we raised over $7,400. All the children ate 2 meals a day for an entire year. We were able to send several kids to school and pay for a tutor to visit for the rest of the kids.

Thank you for helping us make this happen. We are so grateful!

The Children Sing

The kids loved to sing songs as loud as they could. Look at their joy!

We have new goals heading into the future and we need your help.

The conditions:
Poverty
Street Living
Cast out by families
Limited Education
Parents with mental health issues
No government or organized community support
Though we were able to feed the children for the year, there have been set backs. The community transportation has been stolen, the kids may need to be moved from the courtyard that housed them, and there has been some sickness that passed through the community resulted in a couple of deaths.  Our intention is keep finding funds and solutions.
Personally I have dedicated %10 of my business earnings to these kids. Yvette has also dedicated part of her own money to support these kids.

Our short term goal, with combined our personal money and donations, is to send consistent monthly funding to the kids in the amount of $350 or more. For those who are ready to donate and return donors, please donate today.

Our long term goals are to become the recipient of funding from grants and/or a foundation so we can secure regular funding. We would like to build a community place for the kids to live in, receive education, create a situation for the kids to be innovative to create their own resources, and educate the local communities. If you have legitimate leads to help us do this, please send Alexandra Loves an email at info@alexandraloves.com

The Longer Story (from 2019:)
One day I was complaining to myself about how I could not afford concert tickets because I had to pay rent that month for my apartment; a beautiful safe space with heat/air conditioning, clean running water, in a nice city, with all of my beloved material possessions, and two furry friends.
Later that day, I was speaking with my spiritual teacher, Yvette. She mentioned her work in personally providing resources for children with no support in her home city. She was able to personally support some of them up all the way through the University level. She then told me that she currently is struggling to support 12 children, out of her own pocket; her sister supports 12-15 more and all of them are housed together.
I thought ‘Wow, how is she doing this on a teacher’s salary?’ She told me how much it costs for all 12 children a year. I did the math quickly in my head, the result was about $6000.* At first, I assumed that it was about $6000 per child, which would be cheap for a child’s expenses in a year by our standards in The States.
I was wrong. She clarified it for me.
It is about $6000 to support ALL OF THESE KIDS FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR.
I was shocked and immediately changed the way I was focusing on my own financial and material issues. I am so privileged and I have access to resources, a support system, my family, clean water, and a roof over my head, I have never lacked for love or food.
HUMBLE PIE SERVED AND RECEIVED.
I immediately knew I could raise the money for these kids; and now I am.
I have seen how critical it is to give to those who do not have the privileges or resources that I enjoy. Throughout the last year and a half, I have been giving from my own income to various individuals and organizations. Though I am happy to do it, I feel disconnected from the people these resources are serving.
Now I would like to make a greater impact and raise ALL of the money for resources these 12 children need. (Updates, we are serving all of the children combined with the ones her sister takes care of, about 30 children.)
How will we know that they will receive it?
I am going on my own spiritual trip to West Africa and I will be there personally, with Yvette allocating these funds where needed.
I will send all people donating pictures of myself with these children.
As part of my own spiritual journey on this earth, it has become clear to me that it is time for me to give back.
This money is NOT GOING TO:
-My spiritual trip to Africa. I am paying for my trip with my own hard-earned dime.
-Any organizations besides the fees GoFundME will be collecting from this fundraiser. Though charity and NGO's organizations do good work, they do need to allocate large amounts of donations for employees and other expenses. The sometimes corrupt practices of SOME of these organizations and the additional fees is why generous women like Yvette would rather have a direct flow of resources to the people that need them.
- To be clear, all money is going to these children and we will be there to see it through.
Lastly, please remember that anything helps. Small amounts go a long way in a small country in West Africa like Benin. Simply $20 can feed a few children for week.
Please consider helping us reach this goal.
Love and Blessings, Alexandra Lewis.
PS, If you are interested in where we will be going we will be in Abomey, Savalou, and Mistrete with the children.
